There are no bad parts.
Internal Family Systems sees every voice inside you as having a purpose. Managers keep you organised. Exiles hold old pain. Firefighters react fast to protect you. And Self can lead them all.
Doing parts work normally requires either a therapist in the room or a lot of discipline with a paper notebook. A notebook is patient and private, and it will hold anything you put in it. What it will not do is notice that the voice you called the planner in March is the same one you called the fixer in June.
That noticing is the whole reason this app exists.
The roles, briefly
Manager
Runs ahead of the danger. Plans, perfects, pre-empts, arrives early. Exhausting to host, and rarely willing to hand over.
Exile
Carries the feeling everyone else in the system is organised around avoiding. Usually young, usually quiet, usually the reason the others are so busy.
Firefighter
Arrives after the feeling does, and puts it out by any means available. Not subtle. Also not your enemy.
Self
Not a part, and never catalogued as one. Self is the one who can be curious about a part without becoming it — which is the only thing this app is really trying to make room for.
What GoodParts is not
It is not therapy, not a therapist, and not a crisis service. It doesn’t score you, doesn’t chase you with streaks, and doesn’t have an opinion about how often you should record. It writes down what you said and shows you the shape of it.
Clients arrive with a structured record instead of a vague week: named parts, dated appearances, and the words they actually used at the time. Nothing is shared with us or with you unless they export it and hand it over.
